Recently we have a worker who died of a heart attack after work. Using the GHS policy we have $5k and paid to his next of kin.

For employees passed on during or outside of work, bereavement money is given on a voluntary basis. As the deceased will be covered by the company’s Group term life/personal accident insurance coverage, the respective sum insured amount will be paid out to the deceased’s family.

Our general practice in Myanmar to offer money to grieving family members on the death of an employee,
If the employee died outside of work, it would be given from MMK100,000 to MMK500,000 as bereavement money by the company. And some amount (usually MMK300,000) collected contribution by other employee was also given. SSB (Social Security Board) also gave MMK1,000,000 as funeral service money. If he/she has group-life-insurance, it will be covered in accordance with the policy.

First, you need to check with the company’s insurer on what insurance coverage plan the company has on such a case. Any other bereavement money or “white gold” (local Chinese term) is voluntarily pooled. There shouldn’t be a standard policy for such a case.
