CCTV Policy

If my office has a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), what policy should I set in order not to infringe on the law? Do I need to display signage about the CCTV?

HR Ethics

QUESTION Dear HR Practitioners, May I ask how would you deal with your HR subordinate if you found out that he/she has disclosed confidential information regarding compensation to another colleague? The colleague has revealed the HR personnel’s name to the respective director. The HR personnel is an average performer who has high MC rate. Thanks & Regards Serene   REPLY 1 The integrity of this HR personnel has been compromised. Suggest that you re-deploy him or ask him to resign. For revealing salary matters to another colleague will affect the HR department’s integrity and reliability. KH   REPLY 2 It could sound harsh. If HR personnel could not keep confidential information, you may not want to keep the person. Integrity is the most important trait of HR personnel, I think. Dan   REPLY 3 This HR Officer is obviously not suitable for her position. Confidentiality and integrity are key attributes of an HR Officer. Both of which are sadly lacking. A warning letter or if this has happened before – termination from her position is recommended. Sharon   REPLY 4 That will result in immediate dismissal, at least in our company. RT   REPLY 5 When I found my HR […]

Health Screening Report

Health Screening Report

Question Hi HR Professionals, Just want to check if a company could request a copy of employee’s health screening report. Will we breach any legislation? Because there’s specific legislation stating employer has no right to demand a copy of such report in Europe and US. Thank you. Milly Reply 1 If it is paid by company, you may request staff to fill up a indemnity form to allow the Clinic to send a copy to the company or you may request just the copy of summary page from the staff. IC Reply 2 The employer cannot request for the health screening reports of their employees without their written consent, as such reports are private and confidential. Even company appointed clinics are unable to release any health information without consent of the employee concerned. Kathleen Reply 3 If you are hiring an Expatriate or Foreign worker externally, the employer have the right to request the candidate to perform the pre-employment medical check-up. I believe this also a part of MOM requirement if any working visa need to be done. However, if this case was your existing employee, the employer have the right to demand on Health Screening Report if the employee […]

Pdpa And Company Reference Check

PDPA and Company Reference Check

Question Hi Fellow HR Practitioners, During a recent interview, I informed the candidate that we would be making a reference check on him, to which he replied that he had no objections. Such statement was also indicated in the application form with his acknowledgement. I then made contact with the HR of a company (MNC in Singapore) before emailing to the HR a request for some standard information of the ex-employee who was a potential candidate at my company. I was stunned to be turned down flat by what it seems to be a standardized message that the HR does not be give out any information due to PDPA. It also had a suggestion attached that the potential candidate should provide to me his certificate of employment. It is quite obvious that my reference check is beyond date joined and date left. Does anyone here have this similar experience and can anyone suggest what would have been a more appropriate approach, or what is to come after PDPA ? Gez     Reply 1 Perhaps a handwritten authorised letter, as certain company only replied “Yes” on question you asked but not feedback on how this staff was in the past or […]
