Dear Fellow HR Practitioners,
I have an associate that wrote to inform that he leaving office at 4 pm for a medical appointment. But the next day, when we request medical chit to support his absence. He explained he was feeling unwell and claimed that unfortunately was delay on the road and when he arrived the clinic it was closed, therefore he did not see doctor.
Kindly assist to share and advise how we should handle such actions.
1. This kind of situation, we would inform the employee that we will take it as Annual Leave.
2. We would either get the associate to take half day AL to compensate for the failure to submit medical chit, otherwise deduct half day salary as No-Pay Leave. Medical Appointment are made in advance and the doctor will not leave the clinic without seeing the patient in appointment. So the associate is probably lying to get off work early. May need the department head to issue a verbal warning after confirming with the clinic.
