GST for Medical Claims
QUESTION
Dear HR Practitioners,
Our employees' private medical insurance does not pay/reimburse GST for medical claims (e.g. doctor visit, hospital bills). I have spoken with a couple of International Insurance companies in Singapore and have been advised that this is a local Singapore practice. However, our staff in Singapore keep coming back to complain on this, especially foreigners who cannot join Medisave through CPF due to their non-PR/non-citizen status.
Appreciate if anyone can share on whether your company's private medical insurer pay/reimburse GST for medical claims? Does Medisave pay/reimburse GST for medical claims?
Thank you.

If our company, the medical reimbursement to the employee is inclusive of GST.

So far our company group insurance fully paid off as charged for all medical fees inclusive of GST etc.

Your understanding is correct. You can work with insurance broker to have GST included in the reimbursement, however that may increase your premium cost.

We do include in our reimbursement the payment of GST. It can be managed through the broker/health insurance company.
