Medical Entitlement during Sabbatical Leave
QUESTION
Dear HR Professionals,
Our company does not have a policy related to Sabbatical Leave. Recently, we are going to grant an employee 4 months' of Sabbatical leave or leave of absence. During this period, he will not be paid any salary. Is the company legally obliged to provide medical benefits to the employee concerned and and have his annual leave accrued during this period? Please advise.
Thank you.
Eileen

We also do not have a formal policy on this. We continue to provide medical insurance coverage but we will prorate leave entitlement to exclude no pay leave period.
