Part-time Driving

Question

Dear HR friends,

I have some employees who are asking permission to drive part-time Uber / Grab on weekends.

We consider allowing but we are concerned that they may use working time to drive such as during customer visits, lunch time, etc, which is hard for us to manage or control.

Please share if you have encountered similar case and how it was handled.

Thanks,
Michelle

State the terms and conditions clearly to allay your fears - that staff should strictly not drive part-time during office hours and that it will not affect their work performance. Staff who disregard this will face disciplinary action, possibly leading to termination.

If you agreed in principle, it is better to define clearly the time line / hours/ situation for driving.
It is very important even the policy indicated that the employees can do so, your line manager can reject the request if needed (due to business need). We do not have such a case but this is how I would handle.

State your terms and conditions clearly then.
