Replying Office Emails After Hours
We think about work constantly, even to the detriment of our work-life balance.
For instance, checking our smartphones for office emails and messages and responding to them, even after working hours.
And this has become a work requirement accentuating the anxiety that already exists in the workplace.
Psychologists are cautioning that constantly checking emails is stressful and should be stopped by switching off mobile phones "after 5".
Perhaps the French have it right by passing a law that employees have the right to ignore office emails after working hours.
From 1 January 2017, organisations in France with more than 50 workers are required to start negotiations to define the rights of employees to ignore their smartphones.
Organisations should review their policies on work-life balance to consider "switch off" times as our mobiles are responsible for burnout, sleeplessness, and relationship problems.
