Sick Leave During Annual Leave
QUESTION
Hi Fellow HR Practitioners,
Would appreciate if you could share the policy followed by your company with regards to the sick leave used by an employee whilst on annual Leave, i.e. if the employee falls sick during or after annual leave. Particularly if the employee is overseas during the annual leave.
Thanking you for your support.

An employee will not be entitled to paid Sick Leave on Rest day, PH, Annual Leave, non-working day or a day when he is on no-pay leave. This is because the employee is not required to report for work on these days and there is therefore no necessity for him to apply sick leave to stay away for work.

Sick Leave while on Annual Leave, the Annual Leave remains and is not replaced by the sick leave. Sick leave taken after the AL is naturally to be taken in as Sick Leave. This is our company policy. MOM gives employer the right to decide

Based on MOM guideline. Even if you are granted medical leave by a doctor, you are not entitled to paid sick leave during:
· Rest days
· Public holidays
· Non-working days
· Annual leave
· Unpaid leave
If you fall sick while on annual leave, it is up to your employer whether you can cancel your annual leave and take sick leave instead.
