Taxi Claim for Working Extended Hours
QUESTION
Dear HR Practitioners,
Our official working hours are Mondays to Fridays, 8.45am to 5.45pm. We pay taxi expenses to staff who stay back to work up to 7.30pm or later.
Please share with me your company’s practice in paying staff taxi claim home for working extended hours. After what time can staff claim taxi expenses home and which level of staff is eligible to such claim?
Thank you.
Janet

We work until 6 pm and staff can claim taxi fare if they work until 9 pm onward. Only staff who are not entitled to transport allowance can claim taxi expenses. Managers or operators can all claim taxi expenses if they work until 9 pm.

We are located in town near shopping area where buses and trains are very convenient. So we only allow taxi claims (for all employees) for working OT that ends beyond 10 pm.

We are an SME company, and thus our taxi expenses claim is extended to those who stay back to work up to 10pm or later. The staff's taxi expenses is paid via the staff's monthly petty cash submission. A 5.45pm to 7.30pm duration is easily achievable and any one who wish a comfortable ride home may just stay back in the office to wait out the hours. Taxi expense claims are paid to all who work up to 10pm due to assigned projects, and must state the starting time of the cab ride (found on the taxi receipt) as proof of its time, and the Project Title next to the claim on the petty cash form upon submission.

We have 2 scenarios for taxi claim:
1. For O/T work upto minimum 3hrs from official end of working hrs, taxi will be allowed and on sharing basis if more than 1 staff.
2. For staff not entitle to O/T claim, they are allowed to take taxi but must work minimum 2 hrs from official end of working hrs.
